Pochampalli PPC is situated beside Karimangalam to Pochamapalli road and about 20 Kms away from NH 44 Salem to Bangalore Highway giving it direct access to the road transport. This location is a major vegetable growing and trading cluster. It caters the trading, processing and export community of the production cluster surrounding Pochampalli. The crop grown around a radius of 30km can be processed in Pochampalli PPC.
Pochampalli PPC is well equipped with a packhouse and additional handling area to handle about 8 MT of various fruits & vegetables. This PPC is established to focus on handling Mango, Brinjal, Bhendi, Tomato, Cucumber, Spinach etc. A cold storage unit with a capacity of 110 MT is provided to store the primary processed produce. Other basic amenities such as admin block, power station and sanitary blocks are also provided inside the premises.
Common Facilities focussing improvised post harvest management and secondary processing
Apart from the above facilities which has been operated by the Farmer Producer Company for a designated period, there are state of art common facilities focussing on secondary processing and improved post harvest management targeting the growing demands for ready to eat and ready cook products.
The facilities provided are such as APEDA accredited packhouse with Vapour Heat Treatment plant to Mango and other specific fruits to cater the specific importing countries such as Korea and Japan. Individually Quick Freezing Unit with the processing capacity of 1 MT per hour, Irradiation unit with the Gamma Irradiation technology from Baba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to process the fruits, vegetables food grains and packed food items which can be exported to various countries including USA, UK , Korea and Japan.
Also the specialised storage facility with 75 MT capacity of Cold Storage and 350 MT capacity of ripening Chamber. These facilities are established to cater the producer, processors and exporters of the region and Tamil Nadu state.
A quality control lab is provided in the facility for the assessment of the quality of produce before and after processing. This is to maintain the quality standards of the produce delivered from the processing centre.
A separate block for handling the basic quality inspection and quarantine checking. The common meeting hall and dormitory facility is provided to enable the farmers, suppliers, domestic buyers and exporters to stay in the pack house premises and carry the business.
